How to read a mushroom coffee lab report (ours included)

A number on a label means nothing without the method behind it. Here’s what to look for, line by line.

Most mushroom coffees list “beta-glucans” or “polysaccharides” somewhere on the bag. The problem is that some tests count starch from the grain the mushroom was grown on, which makes the number look bigger than the mushroom part really is.

1. Check the method

Look for “Megazyme K-YBGL” or an equivalent enzymatic method that reports beta- and alpha-glucans separately. If only “polysaccharides” is listed, you can’t tell mushroom from filler.

“If a brand won’t show you the method, the number is decoration.”

2. Match the batch

A report from 2022 says nothing about the bag in your cupboard. Our QR takes you to the exact batch printed on your bag.
